The Bulk Trucking Industry

Bulk trucking is a sub-sector of the trucking industry and involves the specialized transportation of products and commodities in bulk form as opposed to being transported in packages or as palletized freight. The bulk trucking sub-sector is distinguished from the general truckload segment of the industry primarily by the specialized trailers required to transport products in bulk form. This creates higher barriers to entry compared to other sectors of the Canadian trucking industry given the significant capital required to start and maintain a fleet of specialized trailers and the operational need for tank cleaning services in some segments of the business. The specialized equipment and nature of certain products hauled also require that drivers be more highly trained.
